Flava of Ballers: The Ground Jordan

Flava of Ballers: The Ground Jordan

Michael Jordan’s entrance onto the global basketball scene in the 1980’s, not only propelled the popularity of the game to new heights, but it also created a new brand of pickup basketball player dedicated to "trying" to play like Mike-the Ground Jordan.

With their tongues hanging out, these marvellously ambitious Ballers bore towards the hoop, leap into the air, and then attempt to spin and throw their “shots” in by launching it over their heads. These "shots" more often than not hit nothing but the backboard, though if Ground Jordan is on his game, he may hit the rim.

The concept that eludes these players is that Jordan was able to be so spectacular because:

1) He could jump like no other.
2) He had incredible coordination.
3) He was well schooled through hours of practise
4) He was superhuman.

Since none of the above applies to the pickup basketball version, they usually succeed in resembling Mike in one way: They wear a no.23 Jersey that says "Bulls" on it.

Check some of the players seen at Ballers already this Summer.
