Saturday May 9th saw the Fast Break Basketball Club hold an Open Day at the superbly appointed King Henry VIII School Sports Centre, the new base for the basketball club.

The Open Day also doubled up as a fund raiser for the Warwickshire and Northamptonshire Air Ambulance, the charity that the basketball club has adopted for all of it’s fund raising activities.

Events were organised throughout the day starting with a Primary Schools Basketball Tournament which saw six teams take part in some lively action.

Coundon Primary, St. Gregory’s Catholic Primary, Christ The King Junior and three teams from King Henry VIII Junior all took part with the Christ The King Junior School emerging as the winning team by virtue of staying un-beaten throughout the tournament.

After a guided tour of the Sports Centre facilities by Centre Manager, Rob Phillips the action centred on the regular basketball club coaching programme that runs at the School Sports Centre every Saturday.

Throughout the day, there were cake sales, teas and coffees were served, a raffle was held, face painting and children’s balloons were available all adding to the fun of the day all with the common aim of raising as much money as possible for the WNAA Charity.

Special thanks need to go to King Henry VIII School for allowing us to use the facility for no charge with all of the training fees going towards the charity, Subway Coventry donated prizes for the raffle, Fyffes Bananas supplied a box of bananas for the children involved in the basketball tournament, plus the many volunteers who made and sold cakes, served teas and coffees, plus selling raffle tickets. HOSANA Sportswear also donated a box of prizes which the players were awarded throughout the day for extra effort and team work.

The day raised £193 – 25 which is the start of a concerted effort to raise as much money as possible for the WNAA Charity.
