U Know How We Doo?
How does a player really create his or her own style on court? Is it the length of their shorts? Is it the height of their socks?
Is it the style of their boots? Or is it that they wear a t under their Jersey? Well… for many players it’s the way they wear their hair. Over the past two decades, we’ve seen, the high top fade, the braid, the curl, the wave, the dreads, the twists, the rows, the asymmetric, the fro, bald, dux and you know the list goes on and on!
There are many extremes of baller hair styles. Brian Grant's dreadlocks, Kevin Garnett’s shaven head, Vince Carters small Afro (during the 2000 Olympics. The styles we have seen over the years in the NBA have been so diverse. Dr. J's 'fro, Allen Iverson's cornrows, Dennis Rodman's technicoloured mini number, Latrell Sprewell's braids, Anthony Mason's shaven messages and Jason Kidd and Bobby Sura's bleached doo’s in 2001…Ivo really made the cornrows popular, influencing many a young baller across the globe to grow their hair and rock rows. This style has now grown beyond just the baller frat and spread universally as a great fashion.
So in its own way, a hair doo is rebellion against uniformity. To create players individuality on court, style wise, to be creative with what you’ve got, to set themselves apart from other players! So my question to you… do you know how do you doo?
