Angels
What a final. What a team. Angels you are da bomb. Its 1 am and we just got back from one of the best days of basketball I've enjoyed, and that was one of the best games of basketball I've seen....Kash MVP...and the whole team contributed on the day...Angel Power.
Peace and love from the Slo one
Was heartbreaking for the
Was heartbreaking for the Sevenoaks girls to go so close, but what a game and what a finish, Ollie Jones hitting the 2 free throws under so much pressure. What a great advertisement for women's basketball am looking forward to next season already. Unfortunately my daughter twisted her ankle in the Suns semi vs Southend and could only sit on the bench and watch the drama unfold.Congratulations to Harringay, but I would have loved to had overtime to prolong the spectacle.
Justice was done
What a great win for the Angels!! This is a true club tradition winning back to back titles!!
It would have been a horrible injustice if the south-east allstars had won any titles this weekend.
The u-16,s played out as expected as well, the real final was between Manchester and The Angels in the semis. It was proven in the final that the the south-east allstars were way out of their league. Better luck next year, but you did not deserve it this year.
WELL DONE ANGELS!!!
I am also very happy for the East London boys as well, it takes years for clubs to build up this type of standards and East London keep rolling on.
It would be a poor advertisement for the EBL if a club like the south-east allstars came in the first year after plundering the region of its best players and went on to win a title. JUSTICE WAS DONE!!! Now B.D. can chew on that for a few months.
The Haters crawl out from under their rocks
I am very disappointed that the haters are still out there. The Under 18 Women’s final was played in a great spirit, the true spirit of the game, between players who know and respect each other. The south east all-stars as you call them earned there place in the final fours, took their defeat on the chin and warmly congratulated the winning teams. The Under 18 final was a classic because of the skill and courage displayed by both teams. You evidently know nothing of the true origins of the club and the reasons behind its formation; you need to talk to slo maybe. Although from my experience of your sort of hater you do not care to know the truth but rely on the gossip and half truths of other haters to satisfy your need to vilify others. I really do not want to continue the vicious circle of hating so I will leave it there. I do not understand why you dislike me so, we have not met and I certainly have done nothing to deserve your venomous comments. If you were a true lover of the game you would appreciate the achievements of the SE all-stars and the contribution they made to what was a fantastic weekend of basketball.
7oaks vs angels
i totally agree with u i think 7oaks didnt deserve it they just stole every1's playas just to win the title. it shows hard work pays off and the angels have worked hard all season and been thru think and thin! thoroughly deserved GO ANGELS next years shud b urs again. JUSTICE WAS DONE. cheaters never prosper
poor B.D.
Poor B.D., nobody hates you,(especially not nobody special) its not a personal thing. Unfortunately for you you are to close to the sevenoaks organisation to truly understand how others on the outside feel about the way the u-18 team was put together. If you can't accept that it was unscrupulous in its coming together then I'm afraid that it is clear that your judgement is clouded and that is because you are guilty by association. I was only saying that it would have been horribly unjust if you had won a title this year, next year if you win a title, it won't leave such a bad taste in peoples mouths. Have you ever considered that people are not hating for the sake of hating but have a genuine reason. You have put your arguments forward quite well but I'm afraid the basketball family in england is very small therefore people do not buy your argument because we know the truth of how the club was formed. The fact is, is that people from Brighton, Hastings and Croydon have a very good reason for feeling crapped on by the sevenoaks management and your problem is that you fail to acknowledge that why, because you and the others have been on a quest to win some silverware this year AT ALL COST and it did not work. And I for one am happy to see that it did not work because justice is so important for moral and this time justice prevailed. Good Luck for next year.
As a parent of one of the
As a parent of one of the Sevenoaks team I had my own personal reasons for moving my daughter to the newly formed club it had nothing to do with chasing silverware and everything to do with my dissatisfaction with the service and value for money I was receiving from her existing club. It is very easy, and frankly an insult to my intelligence for you to make such damming and sweeping assumptions as to the reasons for mine and other parents and players reasons for wishing to move from their existing clubs. You assume we are all over zealous dummies who can be herded around like sheep. Our main aim is to do the best for our children and give them every opportunity of achieving there full potential. I will be dammed if I am going to blight my daughter’s future so you and the rest of the bleating pack feel that they have thwarted some conspiracy. If any coach wants to know my full reasons for moving my daughter they can email and I will be happy to put them straight as would every other parent I would imagine. So please do not talk to me about justice in your case you are mixing it up with vindictiveness and bitterness and if you are the person I think you are hiding behind the alias it is not surprising.
Another PS
Tell me this oh great enlightened one, if we were chasing silverware at all costs why then did we agree to switch the semi final of the Sureshot Cup to the Saturday to accommodate Manchester Mystics request to enable some of their key players to play.A game we subsequently lost.
Surely we would have pressed home our advantage of playing the match on the Sunday.Your arguement is starting to look a little leaky.
future what future
This is where you and parents like you fall on your face. What future do you think there is for your daughter and other girls of similar ability? The best she can hope for is to play for a womens division 1 team in england and to that i say BIG DEAL. Your daughter would have the same chance of doing that if she had stayed at Croydon or Brighton or wherever.
Sevenoaks is about the same as Haringey, Manchester and Southend, there are two maybe three girls from each team that would stand even a small chance of playing college ball in America, the rest of the girls are not going to move from these shores. It is very clear that you know absolutely nothing about the game of basketball.
As for your semi final with Manchester, you agreed to the move because of the England connection. It is doubtful that you would have done the same for any other club.
It's time that you got real with yourself and your daughter.
Match Report
Enough from the bitter and twisted. Fort those of you not able to attend the final fours at cosford I hope this match report by RS can in some way convey the excitement of the Under 18s Womens Final.
NATIONAL LEAGUE FINAL FOURS - FINAL
Sevenoaks Suns Vs Harringey Angels
The Finals match for the Under 18 Women was a thrilling contest which saw reining national champions Haringey Angels snatch victory from the Suns women in the final 4.5 seconds by a score of 62-60. The match between Haringey and Sevenoaks was extremely hard-fought, with both teams demonstrating high levels of skill, toughness and stamina from the opening tap into the final buzzer. While Haringey won in the end, they trailed for the great majority of the game. Led by center Kashmir Joseph, the tournament MVP, Haringey refused to give up and kept the match close enough that they were able to capitalize on a couple of late opportunities and pull off the win in the final 4.5
seconds.
Although the match was hard-fought and well played by both teams for its entire duration, the match was, nevertheless, one of ebbs and flows. Led by the hot perimeter shooting of point guard Ella Joines, the Suns took an early first-quarter lead which they gradually built to double-digit proportions. In addition to Joines hot hand, the Suns' effort was keyed by their strong defense which consistently denied Haringey good scoring opportunities throughout the first quarter. In the second quarter, Haringey answered the bell with redoubled defensive effort and intensity and the Suns hot shooting grew cold. Indeed, Haringey's defensive pressure held the Suns scoreless for one 7 minute stretch during the second quarter. Meanwhile, Haringey broke its own scoring drought and began to nibble away at the Suns' lead, actually
overtaking the Suns in the final minutes of the quarter. Trailing by [2] at the start of the third quarter, the Suns came out and quickly retook the lead. For a while, it seemed that Suns forwards Kara Dougal and Harriet Yea were able to drive through Haringey defence at will and the Suns gradually built up a 12 point lead. However, Haringey refused to go away and much of the third and fourth quarters saw the Suns lead swinging back-and-forth between six and 12 points. With 90 seconds left in the game, the Suns clung to a seven-point lead when Haringey guard, M.Karumba, made a three-point shot from the deep corner cutting the Suns lead to four. From that point on, the Suns went desperately cold and were unable to score either from the floor or the foul line. Although Haringey had their own problems scoring, they continued to pound offensive boards and tied the score with 14 seconds remaining in the game. Following missed Suns foul shots, Haringey grabbed the rebound, pushed the ball up court and, with 4.5 seconds left in the game, Haringey guard, O.Jones, drove to the basket and was fouled. Making both pressure foul shots, O.Jones, gave Haringey the lead for the first time in the second half. With only 4.5 seconds left to play, a Suns desperation effort fell short and Haringey retained its national title.
Match Report
i can only say again, that was one of the best games I've seen....men, women, NBA, whatever. That game was just awesome. Well done to all players and coaches for making it such a great final and an advertisement for the women's game.
I've been reliving Mash hitting that 3 then all the other plays by the Angels all the way to the buzzer in my head since Saturday.
MATCH REPORT
I am glad to hear from someone who appreciated the game without an axe to grind. I also have been reliving all the plays in the last minutes, but from the perspective of the losing side, and unfortunately there had to be one. The girls, from both sides, can be proud of what they achieved in the final. You couldn't have written an end like that, for the pure drama. But then having seen the three games played in the league phase, it was only to be expected.
the real future
Great result for the angels, Back to Back championship performances. Now the pressure is on for next year, surely 3 wins in a row would be a real story. Surprised nobody mentioned how special the win was even in light of the fact that at the end of last season they released 2 of their best players to the states. I remember comments about how they would not win anything without josette and azania!? All credit to the coaching staff and players, keep building the tradition.
The future does look good
Is great to see a serious debate on the topic on the board, i'm sure all will agree that whatever the politics of the situation that the future looks good for the womens game
